Does My Child Need An Eye Exam?

Children require regular eye exams just as adults and those at risk do. Children can be at risk for vision issues and can show signs of vision problems such as squinting, dizziness, or viewing objects closely. If this is the case, we encourage you to bring your child in for an eye exam.

It is recommended that children have their first eye exam between 6-9 months old, one between 2 and 5, and annually from ages 6 to 19.

Children’s Vision & Development

As children grow, their eyes are also growing and developing with them. Vision and development go hand in hand, as around 80% of learning is visual.
Children’s eye exams can identify if there may be vision problems or conditions that can be controlled. One condition that is commonly identified in childhood is myopia or nearsightedness. Myopia can lead to difficulties learning in the classroom, but early detection or management can help to slow down the progression of myopia.
